A Heartfelt Evening at the Friends of Sunrise Gala: A Tribute to Community and Compassion

We are genuinely humbled to share the uplifting story from the Friends of Sunrise Cocktail Party & Auction. This event, at Glen Head Country Club, not only celebrated the generosity of our community, raising over $875,000, but also recognized the quiet efforts Jennie Katz and myself, Mark Stempel of Blue Island Homes, have contributed towards this noble cause. The evening underscored the deep commitment of countless individuals dedicated to bringing joy and hope into the lives of children battling cancer.

At the gala, we were honored with the Sunrise Community Partner Award, acknowledging our continued support of Sunrise Day Camp-Long Island. We feel privileged to contribute to the meaningful work they do for children and families grappling with pediatric cancer.

The event was a moving celebration of community, kindness, and giving. It brought together a warm-hearted crowd eager to support the mission of Sunrise, which is to restore the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings across the globe. The gala featured an engaging auction, motivational speeches, and sincere connections among those present.

A particularly touching moment of the evening was hearing the heartfelt testimonials from friends and family. Their words of appreciation for the little things Jennie and I have done were truly moving. It was a reminder of how community and support networks rally to honor each other's contributions.

Additionally, the gala was a critical opportunity to gather essential funds for Sunrise Day Camps. Established in 2006, Sunrise has been creating unforgettable summers for children ages 3 1/2–16, giving them a chance to escape the rigors of cancer treatment and bask in sunshine, laughter, and fun. With 13 Day Camps and a virtual experience, Sunrise is reaching more children every year, bringing light into the lives of those undergoing treatment in pediatric oncology units.

The Friends of Sunrise Gala exemplified the strength of community and the significant changes we can achieve together. It was a vivid demonstration of how collective efforts can profoundly touch the lives of those in need.
